Synopsis of film

Synopsis of film means a summary on what the film is about which is what I am going to be doing for this bit of writing summarising what our film is about. We have decided on the name for our film Edds dead baby the reason why we have chosen this name because it is a well known quote in the film pulp fiction and because it is catchy so people will remember it.

The film starts of as Edd running away through the moors trying to get away from a mysterious character. When Edd stops to take a breather or to have a look around it flashes back to a situation that happened in the past week with characters that are angry at Edd. This is because of Edd doing something to the characters at the end of all situations the characters all end up saying your dead Edd. There are three situations the first situation is Edd cheating on his girlfriend and she calls him to find out if its true this is to bring drama into the film. The second situation is a car torture scene when Edd has someone on the top of his roof while he is driving and that someone owes him money this is to bring suspense into the film. The third and last situation is when Edd spikes a characters drink who is called Brook this brings mystery into the film. So as you can see we have planned our film and know what we have to do to achieve all the different situations to make it as effective and realistic as possible.

What I have learnt by doing a synopsis of our film is that it is going to be a lot of work and time consuming to make it as realistic as possible but at least we know what our film is about and what we are trying to achieve so we have a aim and objective to motivate us and get on with it.

Codes and conventions of comedy and thriller genres

This is a powerpoint which is comparing the two genres our film will be either categorised as. Our group had to decide between either a comedy or thriller genre. We had to do research into both of them to help us decide what the best option was for us. The information includes all the different things you need to make a comedy or thriller film.

What I have learnt by doing this research is that there are many different codes and conventions for each genre and unless you research the different genres you dont realise how different they actually are. After doing all our research we decided to choose to do a thriller film. The reasons being to make it more interesting and there is a lot more things you can do with a thriller film but with a comedy film it can be limited because it has to be funny and it can be quite hard to think of funny things to keep the audience interested and to keep them watching.

Preliminary task

The video below is my groups first try at doing match on actions which was our preliminary task. The preliminary task consisted of having to be a character walking through a door and sitting opposite another character. The video is from Brooks vimeo account who is in my group. The reason why it is from his vimeo account is because he was the one that uploaded the video on vimeo even though we did all work together doing our first match on actions.

practice film from Brook McGechie on Vimeo.

What I have learnt by doing match on actions for the first time is that it has to be very accurate and you have to concentrate so you dont get confused on what match on action your doing and at what point. If you do get confused you have to start again because it wont work and it wont be a smooth sequence to keep the audience intrigued in your film and they will loose interest in the film. I have also learnt from doing match on actions for the first time is making sure you dont break the 180 degree rule this is because of the audience getting confused because the character will be in a different place of the setting from when you have started which will make the audience confused and unsettled.
